HANCEVILLE, Ala. – After handling Hubbertville in the Sub-Regional, the Addison Lady Bulldogs made their way to Wallace State’s Tom Drake Coliseum Saturday night to face Covenant Christian in the Northwest Regional 1A Girls Semifinals. Unfortunately for the Addison crowd, the Lady Eagles took an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bulldogs trailed by 10 at halftime and weren’t able to erase the deficit in the second half, allowing Covenant Christian to pull away and advance with a 47-26 win over Addison.
Gracie Manley scored inside to give Addison a 2-0 lead early in the opening period but an 8-0 run by Covenant Christian put the Lady Bulldogs down six midway through the first. Manley split a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 8-3 and she laid in another bucket later in the first to make it a 10-5 game. The Lady Eagles added one more basket before the end of the first quarter to take a 12-5 lead going into the second.
Covenant Christian continued to create separation, pulling ahead 21-8 with less than two minutes to play in the second quarter but Hadley Butler buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to 21-11 at the halftime break.
The Lady Bulldogs kept fighting in the second half and Manley scored the first six points of the third to make it a 27-17 game. Following another free throw from Manley, Butler netted a pair from the line in the final minute of the period but Addison went into the fourth still trailing the Lady Eagles 33-20.
Molly Gilbreath was fouled on a three-point attempt early in the fourth quarter and she hit all three free throws to make it a 35-24 game with just over five minutes left to play. Manley laid one in to hold the lead to 37-26 later in the period but those were the last points the Lady Bulldogs were able to get on the board and Covenant Christian went on to win it 47-26.
Manley led the way for Addison with 18 points and 20 rebounds in the loss. Butler added five points and Gilbreath finished with three.
Addison finishes the season in the Sweet 16 with a record of 22-11.
