MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals recently affirmed the conviction of Bobbie Green Holaway, 66, of Blountsville, for murder. Attorney General Steve Marshall announced the Court’s decision.
Holaway was convicted in the Blount County Circuit Court on June 11, 2020, for the murder of her husband, Jerry Holaway.
Marshall’s Office said, “The evidence at trial showed that on the night of June 10, 2016, Holaway called 911 and reported that she had shot her husband. Holaway contended that her husband had abused her, but the evidence showed that Holaway was in fact planning to divorce her husband. On the night of the murder, she texted a male friend but never mentioned anything about a violent confrontation with the victim. Subsequent police investigation revealed important information that was inconsistent with Holaway’s story about the night of the murder.”
Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey’s office successfully prosecuted this case and obtained a guilty verdict. Holaway was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment. She sought to have her conviction reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Holaway’s conviction. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, Feb. 3, 2023.
Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General John J. Davis for his successful work on this case and thanked Casey and her staff for their valuable assistance in defending the murder conviction.
