CCBOE recognizes Vinemont InSPIRESS team

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Board of Education (CCBOE) recognized Vinemont High School’s Team RHAD for its historic win in December at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Innovative System Project for the Increased Recruitment of Emerging STEM Students (InSPIRESS) competition. Members of the  first and only all-girls team to win include Savannah Keel (lead design), Sadie Land (project manager), Faith Rusk (lead outreach), Kimberly Wilt (chief engineer) and Angela Harris (assistant outreach). The team sponsor is Shannon Bridges. 

Instructors who recently earned their board certification were recognized as well. They include: 

  • Tiffiany Ellis Good Hope High School (GHHS) 
  • Sara Kirkpatrick Good Hope Elementary School (GHES) 
  • Monica Smith Harmony School (HS) 
  • Kathy Dyer Hanceville High School (HHS) 

School board members received recognition and included Heath Allbright, Kenny Brockman, Mike Graves, Wayne Myrex, Kerry Neighbors, Shane Rusk and Gene Sullins. 

The following resignations were accepted:

The following leaves of absence were accepted:

  • Natasha Liann Holder GHHS TEAMS teacher  

The following voluntary transfers were accepted:

The following appointments were made:

The following non-faculty coaches were approved: 

  • Sarah Beth Finley Parkside volleyball and middle school girls’ basketball volunteer 

The following financial requests were approved: 

  • Pay Ed Roberson temporarily part time, as needed to perform CSFO duties until the position is filled and to train the new CSFO at his regular hourly rate of pay 
  • Pay William Johnson $1,250 stipend for extra duties associated with the school band, paid by the Cold Springs Band Boosters 
  • Pay Stacey Gardner $500 for assistant softball coaching duties from the 2022 season, paid by the Fairview High School Softball Boosters 
  • Pay Donald Lynn $500 and Steven Harbison $500 for extra duties associated with coaching West Point Middle School basketball, paid by local school funds 
  • Pay tutor $40 per hour effective by ESSER funds: West Point Intermediate – Kate Crider 

The following field trips were approved: 

  • Cold Springs Elementary School first grade to Chattanooga for aquarium visit on March 14 
  • West Point High School to Chicago for Scholar’s Bowl National Championship Tournament April 26-30 

The following bids were accepted: 

  • Vinemont High School Media Center Addition awarded to Coston General Contractors for $1,690,516 
  • Hanceville High School New Home Economics and Agriculture building to Blalock Building Company for $3,875,500

The next school board meeting will be held at the Cullman Area Technology Academy, 17640 U.S. Highway 31 N, on Thursday, Feb. 16, at 3:30 p.m. followed by an open house.
