County Commission begins new year with many surpluses

CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Commission met on Tuesday, Jan. 10, when it recognized Jeff Preston, who is retiring after 25 years from the County Road Department. Preston was not in attendance.  

The commission agreed to surplus vehicles and other supplies from various departments including the Road Department, County Garage and Commission on Aging. Items included: 

  • Surplus of a transmission torque shift core from the County Garage to be auctioned on GovDeals 
  • Surplus of a Hyster Packer-Roller C530A (serial no. A91037630) from the Road Department to be auctioned on GovDeals 
  • Surplus of a Duramax 6.6-liter diesel engine core from the County Garage to be auctioned on GovDeals 
  • Surplus the following items from Commission on Aging to be auctioned on GovDeals 
  • 21-chairs 
  • 1- scanner 
  • 4 -AC units 
  • 3- shelves 
  • 1- ice Machine 
  • 1- ping pong table 
  • 14- tables 
  • 6 -filing cabinets 
  • 1- refrigerator 
  • 2- desks 
  • 4 -treadmills 
  • 2- fax machines 
  • 2 -exercise bikes 
  • Surplus a 2006 Impala (Vin no. 2G1WG5EK6B1268789) to be transferred from Commission to the Cullman Regional Airport 
  • Surplus of a 2018 GMC Terrain (Vin no. 3GKALMEV1JL344100) to be sold from Commission to the District Attorney’s Office for $10,000 
  • Surplus 74 miscellaneous filters from the Garage to be auctioned on GovDeals 

In other business, the following agenda items were approved: 

  • Resolution 2023-10 to enter into contract with Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood for the Cullman Regional Airport Terminal Apron Rehabilitation 
  • Resolution 2023-11 to submit the Rebuild Alabama Grant Application for County Road 1282 
  • Authorize the increase of $687.20 for upgraded door access control system from ADS for a total of $28,526.63 over previous amount approved 
  • Contract with Loomis Bros. Circus to perform at the Agricultural Center Feb. 3-5 
  • Alabama Department of Youth Services Agency Grant Agreement for fiscal year 2021-2022 (Partial Year July-September 2022) in the amount of $153,888 as the fiscal agent for Lauderdale County 
  • Authorize payment of invoice for previously approved amount of $477,837 to EMC directly for Property and Casualty Insurance through Byars Wright 
  • Increase the monthly payments for the lease storage units at Smith Lake Park to $280 
  • Purchase of six Heavy Duty Dump Chassis C T880 (SetBack Axle) or T880S (Set Forward Axle) to be purchased from ACCA Joint Bid at $213,500 each 
  • Purchase of six 16’x60’ Maverick Dump Beds to be purchased from ACCA Joint Bid at $46,251 each  
  • Proposed plat at Flat Rock Cove, a major subdivision of 11 lots located off County Road 931 
  • Proposed plat Serenity Pointe Cabins, a major subdivision containing 12 lots located off County Road 338 
  • Bid 1384: Extension-Fireworks for July 4th Show at Smith Lake Park 

The next commission meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23. The work session will begin at 4 p.m. and regular meeting at 6. Meetings are held in the Commission Meeting Room at the Cullman County Courthouse.
