The funeral service for Moie Alton (Slim) Fortenberry will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, at the Cullman Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation will be 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, at Cullman Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Rodgers will officiate the service. The interment will be in the Jones Chapel Cemetery.

Moie Alton (Slim) Fortenberry, 89, of Jones Chapel, Alabama, passed away on January 8, 2023 at Hanceville Nursing Home. Slim was born on May 4, 1933 to Wiley Waymon and Euna Cleo Fortenberry in the Sardis community of Winston County Alabama, where his nickname was “Bookie.” He married Gwendlyn June Morton on June 2, 1955. He was in the Army from 1953 -1955 and later worked many years for Petrolane Gas Company and retired from Greif Brothers Trucking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Alton Fortenberry; his wife, Gwendlyn June Morton Fortenberry; his brothers, Duel Fortenberrry, Allton “Dyke” Fortenberry; his sisters, Octava Caudle, Arleva Pigg, and Billie Lee Gable.
Mr. Fortenberry is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rodney and Sondra Bagwell; his son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Penny Fortenberry; three granddaughters, Kelsey Bree Bragwell, Kayla and Hunter Looney, Kara and Garrett Seymore; and great grandchildren, Madi Reese Goble, the soon to be born, Colten Chase Looner, and Myla Gwendolyn Seymore.
