GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council hosted its first meeting of 2023 Monday night and there was a small crowd of residents at Good Hope City Hall to comment on a proposed rezoning ordinance. The meeting began with a public hearing in which residents who wished to speak were each given three minutes to share their thoughts and concerns about the ordinance. Residents shared a variety of concerns with the council ranging from traffic flow issues, water runoff and construction. After hearing from all those at the meeting who wished to speak, the council voted to approved to ordinance and rezone the parcel of land.
Ordinance No: 028-2022 – Rezone Henke Property from R2 to PD
“Be it ordained by the City Council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama as follows:
Whereas, this ordinance is enacted by pursuant to the Act and the city’s general jurisdictional power and land use authority, it is therefore, provided:
For the purpose of rezoning the below parcel of property from R-2 to PD, located in the corporate limits of the City of Good Hope, Cullman County, Alabama to Residential District.
29.53 Acres being Subdivided property located Section 28 Township 10 South Range 3 West
Subject to any rights-of-ways and or/or easements of record. Less and Except all that part of the above described property that lies within the right of way of Mize Road.”

The Council also approved a Resolution that will authorize Mayor Jerry Bartlett to apply for additional Community Block Development Grant (CBDG) funds and Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funds.
Resolution No: 003-2023 – Authorizing Mayor to apply for CDBG funds and ARC funds
“Whereas, the City of Good Hope, acting by and through its City Council proposes to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) funds for the purpose of performing eligible economic development activities that will benefit low and moderate income residents in Good Hope; and
Whereas, under the terms and provisions of Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended, the Good Hope City Council, is required to designate and appoint a Financial Officer to perform certain duties in the applying for said grant.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama, as follows:
That, Jerry Bartlett, Mayor, is hereby authorized to execute and submit an application with appropriate assurances to the State of Alabama, Department of Economic and Community Affairs, requesting CDBG funds in the amount of $250,000 and ARC funds in the amount of $250,000 to implement a Sewer Improvements Project to support a new business in the City; and
That the City of Good Hope will provide a local cash match of $187,108.00 in support of this project.”
The Good Hope City Council will host its next regularly scheduled meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
