PREP BASKETBALL: Good Hope collects area sweep over East Lawrence

GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope Raiders and Lady Raiders were back home at D.E. Ryan Gymnasium to host a pair of area matchups against East Lawrence and both Good Hope squads were able to put together dominant, area wins over the Eagles. The Lady Raiders got things started by cruising past East Lawrence 69-27 to improve to 20-0 and in the nightcap, the Raiders outscored the Eagles 45-13 in the second half on their way to an 81-40 win.

Good Hope 69 – East Lawrence 27 (Varsity Girls)

It didn’t take Good Hope long to get on the scoreboard as Bailey Tetro drilled a three from the right wing less than 10 seconds into the game. East Lawrence hit one of their own to tie the game up at three, but Rudi Derrick hit one from the right corner to give Good Hope a 6-3 lead. A Lady Eagle made basket cut it to 7-5, but it was all Good Hope after that as Ivey Maddox found Charly Johnson down low for a basket, then Bailey Tetro hit another three to make it 12-5. Baskets by Johnson, Derrick, and Maddox pushed the Lady Raider lead to 20-5. Heather Tetro hit another long-range shot, then a pair of Maddox free throws, later followed by a Bailey Keef made shot, saw Good Hope take a 27-11 lead into the second period.

The Tetro twins scored the first 10 points of the second period for Good Hope as they pushed their lead to 37-13. Maddox scored six straight points, then Johnson hit one from long-range, along with Maddox, as the Lady Raiders took a commanding 49-17 lead into the locker room. The second half was more of the same as the Lady Raiders ended up pushing their lead to 64-24 after three quarters and the bench players played the entire fourth quarter under a hot clock. Good Hope ended up rolling to a 69-27 win over East Lawrence.

Maddox led the way for Good Hope (20-0, 4-0) with 19 points. Heather Tetro added 15 points. Bailey Tetro collected 12 points. Johnson ended up with nine points and Derrick added seven points.

Good Hope 81 – East Lawrence 40 (Varsity Boys)

East Lawrence scored the first four points of the game to take an early 4-0 lead, but Good Hope got on the scoreboard on a K’mal Bell three, then Weston Hancock hit a basket down low to give the Raiders a 5-4 lead. An Eagle trey gave them a 7-5 lead, but a pair of baskets by Colton Lindsey gave the Raiders the lead right back at 10-9 with a little over two minutes to go in the opening period. Jacob Haynes buried a three from the left wing to make it 13-9 and the Raiders took a 13-11 lead into the second quarter.

Bell hit a pair of baskets down low to make it a 17-14 game, but a pair of East Lawrence free throws cut it to 17-16. A huge and-one by Bell pushed Good Hope’s lead to 20-16, but five straight points by the Eagles gave them a 21-20 lead. Good Hope got the lead right back and then some as baskets by Bell, Haynes, and Hancock increased the Raider lead to 26-21, but the Eagles hit a pair of baskets to cut it to 27-25. Lindsey converted on a huge and-one, then Hancock drilled a pair of threes to end the first half as Good Hope held a 36-27 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw Good Hope get off to a red-hot start at both ends of the floor. A Lindsey made free throw made it 37-27, then consecutive baskets by Hancock and one by Haynes pushed the Raider lead to 43-28. Five straight points by Hancock, including a big and-one, and a basket by Haynes saw Good Hope push their lead to 50-28. An Eagle trey cut it to 50-31, but the Raiders continued to add onto their lead as a pair of Lindsey baskets, one by Bell, and a trey by Dakota Overton saw Good Hope take a commanding 59-31 lead into the final period. The Raiders outscored the Eagles 23-4 in the third quarter.

Baskets by Lindsey and Overton saw Good Hope push their lead to 63-31 and the rest of the quarter was run under a hot clock as some bench players got a lot of playing time. Good Hope would go on to knock off East Lawrence 81-40. The Raiders dominated the second half as they ended up outscoring the Eagles 45-13.

Hancock led the way for Good Hope (15-4, 3-1) with 21 points. Bell added 16 points. Lindsey ended up with 15 points. Haynes added 12 points. Overton finished with eight points and Jed Clements collected six points.

Good Hope will travel to take on West Morgan in a pair of area games next Tuesday night.
