HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Good Hope Raiders and Lady Raiders were on the court at Wallace State’s Tom Drake Coliseum Monday night to battle it out with Lauderdale County and they split their matchups against the Tigers. The Lady Raiders collected a 61-52 win, but the Raiders dropped a tough one to Lauderdale County 64-58.
Good Hope 61 – Lauderdale County 52 (Varsity Girls)
Both teams’ defenses dominated for the first two-plus minutes of the game before Bailey Tetro found Charly Johnson down low for a basket to put Good Hope on the scoreboard first. Later on, Rudi Derrick hit a fast-break layup to give the Lady Raiders an early 4-2 lead. A Lauderdale County made basket tied the game up at four. Heather Tetro hit a basket down low, then Bailey Tetro hit a free throw and added a shot down low to give Good Hope a 9-4 lead. Another Heather Tetro made basket was later followed by an Ivey Maddox trey to push the Lady Raider lead to 14-7 going into the second period.
Good Hope continued to add onto their lead in the second quarter. Derrick drilled a three, then a tough jumper by Bailey Keef made it 19-7. Derrick and Maddox each added baskets down low to increase their lead to 23-7. A three-point play by the Lady Tigers cut it to 23-10. Bailey Tetro hit a pair of baskets and Jolee McHan hit one as well and the Lady Raiders took a 29-16 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Raiders came out on fire from three to start the third quarter as Heather and Bailey Tetro and Maddox each hit a long-range shot to make it a 38-16 game. A basket by Bailey Tetro made it 40-16, but a little run by Lauderdale County cut it to 40-22. A trio of baskets by Maddox and one each by Bailey and Heather Tetro saw Good Hope take a 50-32 lead into the final period.
The Lady Tigers cut it to 50-34 to start out the fourth quarter, but Bailey and Heather Tetro each hit a shot down low, and Johnson added a free throw to make it 55-36. A pair of late threes by Lauderdale County made it a 59-49 game, but it was too little, too late, as Good Hope ended up taking the game over Lauderdale County, 61-52.
Bailey Tetro finished the game with 16 points for Good Hope (18-0). Heather Tetro added 15 points. Maddox ended up with 14 points and Derrick added seven points.
Lauderdale County 64 – Good Hope 58 (Varsity Boys)
Colton Lindsey hit a basket down low to put Good Hope on the scoreboard first, but five straight points by Lauderdale County gave them an early 5-2 lead. Tyler Cone drilled a three from the right wing, then K’mal Bell hit a pair of baskets down low to give the Raiders a 9-5 lead. Weston Hancock knocked down a short jumper to make it a 11-5 game, but a Tiger trey made it a 11-8 game. Lindsey hit another basket down low and later added a pair of free throws to push the Raider lead to 15-8. Bell and Hancock each hit a basket down low and later on, Jacob Haynes scored six straight points to increase Good Hope’s lead to 27-12. Bell hit a short jumper just before the buzzer sounded as the Raiders took a 29-12 lead into the second period.
Bell drilled a three to start out the second quarter for the Raider as that made it a 32-12 game, but a huge 9-0 run by the Tigers cut it to 32-21. A rebound and put-back by Lindsey made it 34-21 and later on, five straight points by Cone pushed the Good Hope lead to 39-25. An and-one by Lauderdale County swiveled the deficit to 11 at 39-28. Another Lindsey basket gave Good Hope a 41-28 lead, but after that, it was all Tigers as they finished the first half on a 10-0 run and the Raiders saw their double-digit lead cut to just three at 41-38 at the half.
A Cone made basket kept the Raider lead at three at 43-40, but a Tiger trey tied the game up at 43. A pair of baskets by Lauderdale County gave them a 47-45 lead. The Raiders quickly righted the ship to end the third quarter as a Lindsey made basket down low tied the game up at 47. Bell drilled a three-pointer and Lindsey hit another shot down low to give Good Hope a 52-47 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Lindsey continued to give Lauderdale County problems as he hit a pair of baskets to push the Raider lead to 56-50. The Tigers, though, countered with a 7-0 run to take a 57-56 lead. A huge steal by Hancock led to an Ace Stricklin basket to give Good Hope a 58-57 lead with less than three minutes to go in the contest. The Tigers hit a shot down low, then added a free throw with 1:57 remaining in the game as that gave them a 60-58 lead. A late basket with less than a minute left, followed by a pair of free throws, helped the Tigers seal the deal against Good Hope as they defeated the Raiders 64-58.
Lindsey finished with 18 points for Good Hope (13-5). Bell added 14 points. Cone ended up with 10 points, while Hancock and Haynes each added six points.
Good Hope will now head back home for a pair of huge county games against Cold Springs Tuesday night.
