GOOD HOPE, Ala. – The Good Hope City Council hosted its final December meeting at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and the council held a public hearing for a new resolution. The resolution was approved and authorizes the execution of an economic development agreement between the City of Hope and Love’s Travel Stop for a new location coming to Good Hope.
Resolution No. 024-2022 (772 agreement with Love’s Travel Stop’s & Country Stores, Inc.)
“Whereas, Amendment No. 772 to the Constitution of Alabama (1901) Section 94.01 (c)(2) of the Recompiled Constitution of Alabama authorizes the City of Good Hope, as a municipal government in the State of Alabama, to lend its credit to or grant public funds and things of value to aid any corporation, or other business entity for the purpose of promoting the economic development within its jurisdiction; and
Whereas, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Inc. currently is in agreement to open a travel stop in the city limits of the City of Good Hope, Alabama; and
Whereas, Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Inc. has requested economic development assistance requesting to not impose a local fuel tax over the next 10 years; and
Whereas, an Economic Development Agreement has been prepared for council approval and public notice has been given of the impending action as set forth in Amendment No. 772., of which said agreement, upon approval, will become a part of this resolution.
Now, therefore be it resolved by the city council of the City of Good Hope, Alabama, that:
Section 1. It is herewith determined that a public purpose shall be derived from granting said tax incentives through promotion of local economic and commercial development, stimulation of the local economy, Expansion and enhancement of local business, and enhancement of the quality of life for the citizens of the City of Good Hope.
Section 2. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to act on behalf of the City Council to execute the Economic Development Agreement between the City of Good Hope and Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores, Inc., and all other documents and agreements necessary to effectuate the provision of said incentives to the extent permitted by law and to carry out the purposes and intent of the Resolution for and on behalf of the City of Good Hope.” More information on the new Love’s location will be available after the new year.
