Obituary: James “Skip” Burwell Urquhart III

James “Skip” Burwell Urquhart III, age 78, of Cullman, Alabama passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Skip was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Skip is survived by his wife of 32 years, Catherine Urquhart; his daughters, Susan Wilhelm, Melanie (Toby) Williams, Katherine Urquhart, Stephanie (Joe) Jowers, Shannon Lewis; and his grandchildren, Claire Wilhelm, Caleb Williams, Rebekah Williams, Catie Jowers, Jamie Jowers and Addie Jowers.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, James Burwell and Eva Marie Williams Urquhart II and his first wife, Eleanor Urquhart.

Skip traveled the world as a child, while his dad served our country in the Navy. Skip went on to graduate from Duke University and went to graduate from Georgia Tech with his Masters. He was a Space Rocket Engineer, for 45 years, where he was a part of all the Apollo Missions, Saturn 5, and a part of the space engineering program on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

The graveside service will be Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, at noon at the Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, South Carolina.
