VINEMONT, Ala. – Vinemont’s inaugural Christmas in the Park will be Saturday, Dec. 3, from 4-6 p.m. at the South Vinemont Trail and Art Park.

The community is welcome to attend the lighting of an 18-foot Christmas tree and to visit with Santa Claus. Kids will have plenty of festive activities to enjoy. The Vinemont Community Center will be open for kids to make Christmas ornaments. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be provided.

The town’s first Christmas in the Park will showcase the developments made to the new Art Park situated behind the community center. Plans for the park began in July, when councilmembers Chris Thompson and Sonya Copeland brought up their ideas about beautifying and adding improvements to the park. The old playground equipment was replaced earlier this year. Metal animal statues, manufactured by Vinemont Welding and Fabrication, decorate the park, painted by artist Jack Tupper to match the jungle scene mural painted on the back wall of the pavilion.

Thompson has been working the past few weeks completing the landscaping around the featured decorative animals. A beach-style volleyball court was recently added, along with a basketball goal for guests to try out before a full court is added.

“We wanted to build a unique park that we thought kids and adults would love. We were inspired by Cullman’s Art Park, so we got local artist Jack Tupper to meet us there, and our ideas started coming out! We wanted a jungle theme and we wanted lots of art to look at and to take pictures with. I think all who visit will enjoy and bring their kids back to visit again,” said Thompson. “We are not finished yet. There will be more surprises in the near future.”

Thompson said he hopes the Town will start hosting events a couple times a year to utilize the revitalized location.

The Town is excited to invite the entire community to gather and enjoy the festivities Dec. 3. The Art Park is located at 88 Ridgeway St., Cullman, AL 35058.
