PREP FOOTBALL: Vinemont drops 1st round matchup at Lauderdale County 41-7

ROGERSVILLE, Ala. – Vinemont traveled to face Lauderdale County in the first round of the AHSAA state playoffs Friday night and unfortunately for Eagles fans, the Tigers came away victorious 41-7.

Turnovers plagued Vinemont early. On the Eagles’ first possession, Lauderdale County blocked a punt, setting up a short field for the Tigers. The Tigers capitalized on the short field with a touchdown pass on third and goal to go up 7-0 with 7:18 remaining in the first quarter.

Vinemont turned the ball over on downs to set the Tiger offense up with great field position and they quickly scored to make it 14-0 with 4:38 remaining in the opening quarter. After a turnover on downs gave the ball back to the Tigers, they went up 21-0 with 37 seconds to play until the second quarter. Vinemont fumbled on the first play of the ensuing possession and three plays later Lauderdale County found the endzone to go up 28-0 with 11:52 remaining until halftime.

The Tigers added to their lead late in the first half to take a 35-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Lauderdale County added another touchdown late in the third quarter to go up 41-0. Vinemont got on the board with 3:33 remaining in the game when Rush Sandlin ran it in from 3 yards out, making the final score 41-7.

The Eagles finish the season 5-6 with the loss and will be looking to earn their way back to the postseason in 2023.
