Funeral service for James William Meherg, 91, of Baileyton, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Rev. Deborah Moon will officiate the service. The interment will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery in Morgan County.

Mr. Meherg passed peacefully, Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his loved ones. James was a long-time resident of Baileyton. He was a member of Baileyton United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. He retired from the Cullman County School System after 33 years of dedicated service. Mr. Meherg was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Alabama National Guard. He was a well-known pillar of the Baileyton community. He leaves a legacy of love to all who knew him.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Martha Sue Hyatt Meherg; five children, Sandra Meherg Myrick, Richard Meherg, Edward (Rebecca) Meherg, Phillip Meherg, and Brinkley (Laurie) Meherg; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and four siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Lem Meherg and Lena Belle Melhorne; and two siblings.
