CULLMAN, Ala. – Victim Services of Cullman (VSOC) hosted its annual masquerade ball fundraiser Tuesday at Brick Haven, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The local nonprofit’s goal for the night was $20,000. It exceeded that, bringing in $27,558.13.
Masked guests enjoyed a five-course dinner and drinks served by “celebrity waiters,” including local leaders and law enforcement personnel who volunteered their time. Guests were treated to music by local band Brez and had the opportunity to bid on extravagant silent auction items such as a four-night stay at Tide Water Beach Resort in Panama City Beach and a fishing trip for six in Destin.
Tips made to the volunteer waiters, the auction, monetary donations and ticket sales made up the total raised at the event, which saw around 230 attendees. Proceeds will fund VSOC’s services such as emergency and transition shelters, sexual assault services and community outreach programs.
“This will support all of our work that we do for sexual assault and domestic violence victims,” said VSOC Executive Director Carol Horstman.
Established in 1991, the nonprofit’s mission is to lead Cullman and surrounding counties in the prevention of and recovery from domestic and sexual violence by providing shelter, crisis response, education and advocacy.
