HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville welcomed the Wildcats of Fultondale to Ray Talley Stadium Friday, and they celebrated homecoming with a 35-3, region victory.
Hanceville forced a three and out to start the game to set their offense up with good field position, after a first down a sack put them behind the chains, they had to punt the ball back to the Wildcats. Both teams swapped punts until Zach Campbell connected with Marquies Leeth for a 52-yard touchdown to put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0 early in the second quarter.
On the ensuing kick-off the Bulldogs attempted an onside kick, but Fultondale picked up the ball and ran it all the way down to the 1-yard line, but the defense stepped up to force a field goal which cut the lead to 7-3 with 8:20 remaining until halftime. Hanceville quickly answered thanks to a 43-yard touchdown burst by Brosnan Ward with 6:54 remaining until halftime to extend the lead to 14-3.
Keiton Whatley put an end to the next possession for the Wildcats with an interception at midfield, five plays later Ward capitalized with a 2-yard run to push the lead to 21-3 with two minutes remaining in the second quarter. Fultondale was driving looking to cut into the lead before halftime, Marquies Leeth put Hanceville on board with a 93-yard pick six, extending lead to 28-3 at halftime. Midway through the fourth quarter Brosnan Ward found the endzone from a yard out to put the Bulldogs up 35-3. After a turnover on downs the Bulldogs got the ball back and drove the ball down to the 1-yard line, all the Bulldogs needed to run out the clock and secure a homecoming victory was three kneel downs.
Hanceville will be back home next week to finish the regular season against East Lawrence.
