VINEMONT, Ala. – After downing Danville at home last week, the Eagles returned to their home field Thursday night to host Asbury. Like last week’s game, Vinemont was in control of this one the whole way and the Eagles handled the Rams 47-0 to improve to 4-5 and clinch a playoff spot.
Vinemont forced a fourth down on Asbury’s first possession, Vinemont’s Chayce Sandlin intercepted the pass to set Vinemont up at midfield. On the first play from scrimmage Rush Sandlin found Chayce Sandlin for a 50-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 6-0 with 8:31 remaining in the first quarter.
Vinemont forced a three and out, eight plays later Rush Sandlin found Isaac Moody for a 16-yard touchdown to put the Eagles up 13-0 with just under three minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Vinemont got the ball back after a three and out and on the second play of the drive Diego Rodriguez raced 34 yards to put the Eagles up 20-0 just a few seconds into the second quarter. After forcing another three and out Vinemont added to their lead when Kayden Henderson scored from 7 yards out to make the score 26-0 with 6:16 remaining until halftime. Vinemont’s defense stepped up to stop the Rams on fourth down, 4 plays later JT Wilhite scored on a 30-yard run to extend Vinemont’s lead to 34-0 with 1:36 remaining until halftime.
Vinemont received the second half kick-off and pounded the ball capped off by a 14-yard touchdown run to put the Eagles up 40-0 with 3:44 left in the third quarter. Vinemont got the ball back thanks to a turnover on downs, they capped off the drive and the game with a 41-yard touchdown run by JT Wilhite with two minutes remaining in the game.
The Eagles improve to 4-5 win the win and they’ll finish the regular season at Holly Pond next week.
