CULLMAN, Ala. – The annual Cullman Electric Cooperative (EC) blood drive is Sept. 28, 2022, at the Cullman EC Main Office from 7a.m.-4 p.m.
The blood drive started in 2019 to honor the life-saving story of former lineman Aaron Quick, who was accidentally shot on Christmas Eve 2018 while removing a personal firearm from his gun safe. Thanks to medical professionals and previous blood donors, Quick received the care needed to save his life. He received 130 units of blood products in those first critical 48 hours.
Cullman EC shared, “Starting in January 2019, we hosted a blood drive to honor one of our linemen, Aaron Quick, and we were overwhelmed with support! We learned firsthand as a co-op family just how precious life is and to not take one day for granted.”
Cullman EC is working with community blood center LifeSouth on this blood drive. The blood supply collected from donors will serve the needs of patients in the local community directly. The donations will go to 18 north Alabama hospitals.
Berkleigh Nowak of LifeSouth shared, “We’re always in need so that we can better serve our patients. A lot of blood products are used for various reasons, whether it be trauma or illness related. Certain people are only able to get certain blood types, so it’s really important that we have a lot of products available for everyone.”
