FLORENCE, Ala. – After falling to Locust Fork at home a week ago, the Cold Springs Eagles hit the road Friday night and came back with a big win. The Eagles traveled to play the Flame of Shoals Christian Friday night and they scored early and often on their way to a 48-20 win.

The Eagles got on the board first with a scoring run by Josh Winfrey and a pass from Tucker Philbeck to Dillan Smith added the two-point conversion to make it an 8-0 game early in the opening period. Shoals Christian struck back on its first play following the Cold Springs touchdown and put six points on the board to trim the lead to 8-6.

The Eagles responded with another touchdown on the ground from Victor Laurentius and the two-point conversion by Matt Williams stretched the lead to 16-6 midway through the first quarter. Winfrey’s second touchdown of the night made it a 22-6 game late in the first and following a score from the Flame later in the second, Williams found the end zone for the Eagles in the final minutes of the half to give Cold Springs a 30-14 advantage at the break.

The Eagles continued to add to their lead in the third, starting with Laurentius’ second touchdown run of the night that put Cold Springs in front 36-14. A Hank Harrison touchdown extended the lead to 42-14 late in the third quarter and they maintained that lead going into the fourth.

A Tyson Kilgo touchdown gave the Eagles a 48-14 advantage with just over four minutes remaining in the game. Shoals Christian was able to find the end zone one more time, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early lead and Cold Springs returned home with a 48-20 victory.

The Eagles improve to 3-3 with the win and they’ll be back on the road next week to take on Winston County.
