CULLMAN, Ala. – Suicide Prevention Month education in Cullman continues Tuesday, Sept. 20, at The Link of Cullman as WellStone’s Community Outreach team brings suicide prevention education to The Link’s clients. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and run until noon.
WellStone’s team will be on hand during The Link’s community pantry day to offer information to clients on identifying suicidal behavior in family members, friends and even themselves. Personal experience in overcoming suicidality will be shared, along with coping tools for working through suicidal thoughts.
Additional resources will be available, including various methods of reaching WellStone’s Mobile Crisis Team, which serves anyone in Cullman County in the midst of a mental health crisis, not limited to only suicidal ideations and behaviors.
Certified Peer Support Specialist and WellStone Mobile Crisis Team Member Zachary Moore said, “So far, we’ve intervened in more than 150 crises this summer in Cullman County, but many more crises go unreported. These include suicide attempts, episodes of schizophrenia and those experiencing substance abuse that desperately want treatment. Our goal is to get the right help, to the right person, at the right time. We work closely with the city police and sheriff’s office to avoid involving law enforcement. Our staff includes peer support specialists that have lived experiences with suicidal thinking and substance abuse.”
