Obituary: Frances Violet Harris

Frances Violet Harris, age 91, of Cullman, formerly of Crane Hill, passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022, at Attalla Healthcare and Rehab.

She was born in Crane Hill on September 10, 1930, to William Constantine and Mamie Irene Patterson Harris. She was the oldest child of a family of nine girls and one boy. She worked for F.W. Woolworth in Birmingham until her retirement. She moved back home to help take care of her aging parents and siblings until their death. She was a talented seamstress, artist and loved doing crafts and gardening. She was a longtime member of Mt. Hope Baptist Church and after moving to Cullman, due to her health issues, she attended Northside Baptist Church as long as she was able.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Nita, Willie Jean, Hison and Johnnie Mae Harris; brother: William Ray Harris; brothers-in-law: Elwin Harbison and Mahlon Calvert; sister-in-law: Lyndia Harris; niece: Magenda White; and nephew: Leon Harbison.

Survivors are her sisters: Ruby Harbison, Shirley Calvert, Margaret Morton and Charlotte Brock; brothers-in-law: Larry Morton and Darrell Brock; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; a special friend: Emily McCrelass; and special caregiver: Nancy Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 9, 2022, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 (her birthday) at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hope Baptist Church. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
