FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Friday night was the start region play for a lot of local teams, including the Fairview Aggies. The Aggies faced off against the East Limestone Indians in their region opener and a huge night from Eli Frost on the ground and a great defensive effort helped Fairview easily roll past the Indians 42-14.
The Aggies got the ball first to start out the game and on second down, Barett York picked up nine yards. Frost got the first down on his second carry of the game. Two plays later, York found Jameson Goble for 12 yards and another first down. On second down from the 26, Frost took off down the right sideline and dived over the pylon for the score as that gave Fairview a 7-0 lead after the Kolt Redding PAT. A quick three-and-out on defense saw Fairview get the ball at the 43.
Penalties hurt the Aggies on this series as a pair of flags, plus a sack, quickly put them behind the sticks. Two plays later, the Indians forced a fumble and returned it all the way to the eight. They found the end zone on a 1-yard run to tie the game up at seven with a little over five minutes to go in the first quarter. Fairview quickly recovered from the turnover on its next series as York found Cade Yeager over the middle for a 57-yard score to give them a 14-7 lead with 3:10 remaining in the opening period. A 50-yard pass on third down quickly put East Limestone in business at the 21 and they would score on a 15-yard pass to tie the game up at 14.
A huge 51-yard kickoff return by Frost put Fairview in excellent field position at the 31-yard line. A penalty on third down had the Aggies looking at a 3rd-and-18 from the 39, but York completed a pass to Frost for nine yards and then connected with Caden Jennings for 11 more on fourth down to help them keep the drive alive. Later on, an offsides penalty on third down gave Fairview another first down and Frost cashed in on that opportunity two plays later as he scored on a six-yard run to give them a 21-14 lead with 4:41 remaining in the first half.
The Aggies got the ball back after another punt and it was a heavy dose of Frost the whole series as he had runs of 24 and 12 yards during the drive. He found the end zone for the third time in the first half as his 10-yard hard-nosed run pushed the Fairview lead to 28-14 and that would be the score at the half.
The Aggie defense forced a three-and-out to start the second half and Frost continued to wear down the tired East Limestone defense. On just the fourth play of the drive, he found a hole up the middle and ended up scoring on a 16-yard run to make it 35-14. Another punt gave the ball back to Fairview as they were backed up at the five-yard line, but Frost quickly got them out of the hole as he picked up 10 and 15 yards on consecutive runs.
York added six more on the ground and Frost picked up 14 more yards as Fairview was now at midfield. Two plays later, Frost put the cherry on top of his masterful performance as he took off down the right sideline, breaking a tackle and keeping himself inbounds on his way to a 55-yard score and that gave Fairview a 42-14 lead. The younger players got some playing time after that and the Aggie defense held East Limestone scoreless in the second half as they easily took care of business in its region opener, 42-14.
Frost had yet another huge night running the ball for the Aggies, finishing with 240 yards on 24 carries and five scores. York completed four passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Yeager had a 57-yard touchdown catch in the game.
Fairview will travel to take on Good Hope next Friday night.
