BREMEN, Ala. – The Sulligent Blue Devils made the trip to Bremen, Alabama to face the undefeated Eagles of Cold Springs in a critical 2A, Region 5 game. The Eagles fought hard, but the Blue Devils walked away with a 24-12 victory over Cold Springs.
Cold Springs received the opening kickoff in front of a packed home team crowd. Unable to move the ball against a tough Blue Devil defense the Eagles were forced to punt.
Starting on its own 38, Sulligent wasted no time getting their offense rolling. Driving the ball to the Eagle 21-yard line, the Blue Devils quarterback Noah Chism finds Nate Stiles for a 21-yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good.
The Blue Devils forced the Eagles to punt on fourth down giving the Blue Devils the ball on their own 26-yard line. On the next play the Eagles Victor Laurentius cause the Sulligent halfback to fumble, and the Eagles recovered the ball on the Blue Devil’s 29-yard line.
The Eagle offense came to life. Driving the ball inside the 10, Tucker Philbeck finds Josh Winfrey heading toward the right pylon and throws a perfect pass for the touchdown. The PAT was no good and the score remained at Cold Springs 6, Sulligent 6.
Sulligent’s Chris Baker had a good night, scoring on the first play after a failed onside kick by Cold Springs running 52 yards for the touchdown. Baker also scored on a 9-yard run in the 3rd.
Cold Springs made it to the end zone again in the third quarter, but Sulligent put the game away in the fourth with a 50-yard Touchdown run by Wesley Owens to bring the final score to Sulligent 24, Cold Springs 12.
Cold Springs travels to Lamar County next Friday for another 2A, Region 5 matchup.
