VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Eagles played their way into the postseason in 2021 and their journey back to the playoffs has already begun in 2022. Senior quarterback Ayden Thomason wants to help his team build off that momentum from last year.

“I feel like we did really well in the spring game. There were a lot of positives. We moved the ball well in the run game and gained some yards in the passing game. Our defense played very well, getting some big stops and giving the offense good opportunities to score,” Thomason said. “Overall, the spring game gave me high hopes for this season. We have a lot of shoes to fill this season on both sides of the ball, but we also have some seasoned players returning in all aspects of the games. Having returning players like this is a key part to having a successful team because they can help the younger players with their game even more.”

Ayden has played for coach Stephen Robinson for his whole football career and has learned quite a bit from him so far.

“He’s a really great guy to be around on and off the field. He is always looking for ways to make us better as a whole, whether it’s in the weight room or on the field. He is always helping us understand the ins and outs of the game and helping us develop as players.”

Ayden has taken away so much from the players before him and wants to help teach the younger players on the team as much as he can.

“All of the upperclassmen from the time that I was a freshman have shown me what’s it like to work hard and what it takes to be successful. They have also showed me what it’s like to be good leaders on and off the field and how the game was supposed to be played: with great intensity and to do everything with a purpose. All I can hope is that I have shown the guys under me these same things and that I have been a good example to show these guys all the same things.”

Ayden feels honored to be playing with a great group of guys and has been working on a lot in the summer to improve his game even more.

“It’s been an absolute blast, from practices to games and even going to eat every Thursday after practice. All the guys I’ve ever played with have just been fun to be around and a great family. I think we are a run-heavy team and that our goal is to be tougher, and we have to want it more than the other team for four quarters,” he said. “I’ve been working on becoming a good leader on and off the field along with progressing my game on the field, learning to read the defense before the play, and making the right decisions in the game. I’ve also worked on getting stronger in the weight room, which has always been a big part of the program since I’ve been in it. My goal for this team is to make the playoffs again and hopefully, make it deep into the playoffs.”
