ARLEY, Ala. – The Tigers of Meek got the 2022 season started on their home field Friday night and they kicked things off with a win. Maplesville traveled to Arley to face off against the Tigers after winning 11 games a season ago, but the Red Devils couldn’t find a win tonight and Meek collected a convincing, 36-12 win to start the season 1-0.

Maplesville took an early, 6-0 lead in the opening quarter but the Tigers responded in the second. Cam Deavers’ first touchdown of the night came from 5 yards out and put Meek in front 8-6 with just over a minute gone in the second quarter. His next touchdown, a 4-yard scoring dive, stretched the lead 14-6 and following a Red Devils score, Deavers broke free for a 38-yard touchdown run to send the Tigers to the locker room with a 22-12 lead at halftime.

Deavers’ big night continued in the second half and his fourth touchdown run of the night gave Meek a 28-12 advantage midway through the fourth quarter. Blake Miller capped off the big night for the Tigers with his own 7-yard scoring run and Meek went on to defeat Maplesville 36-12.

Deavers racked up four touchdowns on the ground for the Tigers and Miller posted a rushing touchdown in the win as well.

Meek will be on the road next week looking for another win against the Panthers of Hackleburg.
