SOMERVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville Bulldogs opened up the 2022 season on the road Friday night and after taking an early lead over Brewer, the Patriots were able to answer and came from behind to top the Bulldogs 20-13.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead when quarterback Noah Jones connected with JT Davis on a 42-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes remaining in the second. However, the Patriots responded with a score of their own in the final seconds of the period and tied the game up at 7 going into the halftime break.
Brewer found the endzone again with a little under five minutes to play in the third quarter and moved in front of the Bulldogs 14-7. Just a few minutes later, the Patriots tacked on another touchdown to extend their lead to 20-7. Hanceville was able to respond with a 9-yard scoring run by Brosnan Ward and cut the lead to 20-13 going into the fourth quarter.
Points were tough to come by in the final frame. The Bulldogs tightened up on the defensive end, but Brewer didn’t allow Hanceville to get much going either and the Patriots held on to collect a 20-13 win over the Bulldogs. Ward, Jones and Davis each posted touchdowns for Hanceville in the loss.
The Bulldogs will return home to Ray Talley Stadium next week to host the West Point Warriors in a county rivalry battle.
