CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City School Board ran through a lengthy agenda late Monday afternoon at its regular board meeting. The robust agenda brought no discourse among the board members, with all items passing unanimously. The highlight of the meeting was the proclamation naming the football field at Cullman High School’s (CHS) Oliver Woodard Stadium in honor of retired head coach Mark Britton, whose tenure at CHS is legendary.
Board member Chris Branham, who played for Britton at CHS, shared, “Coach helped to shape me into who I am. He was hard on me, but when I did something great, he showed me so much love and appreciation. That helped me become who I am today. It’s about working hard in the trenches, making mistakes and getting a pat on the back when doing it right. He would chew on me when I messed up because he knew I could do better, so he pushed me. He knew what our potential was before we did and helped us to meet it.”
See The Tribune’s separate, feature article on Britton.
