Dwaine “Parks” Duke Jr., age 63, moved to Heaven on Saturday, August 13, 2022. He was born March 5, 1959, in Birmingham, Alabama. Visitation will be Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 11:30am at Vinemont Baptist Church. Celebration of Life service follows at 12 noon at Vinemont Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Vinemont Baptist Church Cemetery.

Parks graduated from Banks High School in 1977. He was a guitarist, songwriter, artist, carpenter, son, brother, dad, and friend. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, and kayaking with friends, and loving people through music. His greatest love the last few years has been memorizing the Bible via his favorite, Shepherd’s Chapel, reading of God’s Word.

His family wants to thank Pastor Joey and Vinemont Baptist Church for all the prayers and assistance; his close friends, Mark Covin, Billy Strahan, Kewana, and Peggy Brown for the months of love and encouragement to Parks in the most difficult of times. The very best friend and caregiver, Mr. Bill Smith, is an angel sent from God, who was like a father to Parks and by his side each and every day. Thanks to the many other friends and family for all your prayers and calls to Parks. Thank you to UAB care team who treated him and loved him through it all. The greatest thanks is to Jesus, his Savior, who rescued him and taught him through His Word that salvation is a gift that cannot be earned, but must be received by faith.

He is survived by his mother: Jeanette Tingle Duke; his sister: Carmen Duke Moss (Chris); his children: Jonathan Duke, Maggie Duke, and Sarah Duke.

Parks was preceded in death by his father: Dwaine Parks Duke, Sr.; and grandparents: Welcome Parks and Ruth Wilhite Duke, and Lester and Zella Tingle.
