CULLMAN, Ala. – The August edition of 2nd Fridays, hosted by the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Cullman Downtown Merchants Association and Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism (CPRST), closed out this year’s series of events Friday evening. With thousands of visitors filling First Avenue to partake in the celebration, the community shindig was a roaring success as always.
Avenue G Band and Sipsey Falls were featured on the two stages on First Avenue and had toes tapping and people dancing in the streets, while Sacred Heart Church on Second Avenue hosted bingo and bunco games in its Family Life Center where people dabbed for cash and prizes.
“This one is my favorite of the year since it’s not as hot. The kids are running all over the place and having a blast. They went back to school this week and need to run off some energy after being couped up in school,” chuckled Jamie Green as her little ones bounced around.
The cruise-in car show saw many cars and motorcycles shining in the late afternoon sun along Arnold Street and in parking lots on the north perimeter of the event. Further south along First Avenue, the Kidz Zones were a popular destination for young ones celebrating the first weekend of the new school year.
CPRST Executive Director Nathan Anderson said, “We want to thank everyone in Cullman and the surrounding areas for making this summer’s 2nd Fridays the best ever. We especially want to thank the Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Merchants Association who always do an amazing job with 2nd Fridays. We look forward to next summer and can’t wait to see everyone at Oktoberfest next month.”
Cullman’s 41st annual Oktoberfest is scheduled to begin in late September, as is Oktoberfest in Germany, and runs into October. It will run from Sept. 29-Oct. 1. Stay tuned for more details.
