Kevin Dewayne Yates, 58, a resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama, closed his eyes in sleep and woke up eternally healed on August 2, 2022.
Kevin was born on August 28, 1963, in Cullman, Alabama, to James Marvin and Carolyn Yates. He worked as a band director and music teacher for 35 years and believed his mission field was his family and his work.
He was preceded in death by his father: James Marvin Yates. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years: Sonya Sampley Yates; son: Tyler Yates; daughter: Morgan Yates Womble (Daniel); mother: Carolyn Hestla Yates; sister: Regina Yates Raney (David); along with nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Kevin lived a life of encouraging, mentoring, and ministering to others. A devoted Christ follower, Kevin’s legacy is one of speaking life in all circumstances and declaring victory in Jesus. His legacy is one of hope, grace, forgiveness, patience, and love.
Kevin was an ordained minister, played piano and sang with “Sounds of Joy”, served in various positions at churches, and led mission trips to Alaska and Mexico for Beyond Walls, Inc. His faith was strong, and he touched thousands of lives over the years.
The family will hold two visitations to honor the life of Mr. Yates with family and friends. A visitation on Friday, August 5, 2022, will be held at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, from 4 – 6 p.m. Visitation at Hanceville Funeral Home, 100 Michelle Street, Hanceville, AL, will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 2 – 4 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 4 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Hanceville, AL.
