CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman area golden agers, with fresh popcorn in hand, chattered with anticipation before viewing “Big Fish” at Daystar Church Thursday. All seniors were invited, and the event was attended by senior centers throughout the county. Residents from assisted living facilities were also in attendance.
The big screen, venue and popcorn were donated by Daystar, and Pepsi Cola provided drinks.
Said Daystar Cullman Campus Pastor Ory Hampton to the seniors, “I just want to say that, on behalf of me, on behalf of our staff and all of Daystar Church, thank you. You are truly special to us. I want to thank you for making the Cullman area so great. We honor you. We appreciate you and we’re excited to get to know you. You’re important.”
Cullman County Commission on Aging (COA) Director Stephanie Lawson shared from the stage, “We are so very thankful for Ory and Daystar for allowing us to come. Not only did he say, ‘You can come and enjoy our beautiful facility’ but he also said, ‘We’ll even pop your popcorn!” We also want to thank Pepsi. They provided our donated drinks today.”
Already looking toward the future, COA and Lawson are gearing up for their second movie day for seniors.
“Before we get started, I wanted to let you know that our next movie day we’re hoping to host will be around Christmas. If you have a Christmas movie suggestion, we want to hear it. Tell one of the Commission on Aging staff know your favorite Christmas movie on your way out or tell your senior center manager later after you think about it.”
While many of the attendees were subdued while awaiting the beginning of the movie, others showed the sassiness reminiscent of their teenaged years at the theater, musing, “When’s the movie going to start already?” as they chomped their popcorn with a playful glimmer in their eyes.
