CULLMAN, Ala. – Saturday marked the official grand opening of Cullman’s German Axe Throwing Co. (GAT Co.). Festivities included mechanical bull riding, a golf simulator, a mobile arcade, Mom & M’s food truck, live music from Johnathan Tyler Ralph and, of course, the establishment’s popular Rage Room and axe throwing.
GAT Co. opened back in February, but with additional features, held its official grand opening Saturday.
Two of the establishment’s owners, Nichole Hancock and Kayla Reel, talked to The Tribune about the business and being in Cullman.
“We used to go to Huntsville and throw axes and stuff, and we just decided to bring it to Cullman,” Hancock said.
Added Reel, “We’re excited to have a store here in Cullman. We hope to bring a lot of stuff to Cullman for kids and teenagers. We’re open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, so we hope that they can come here. We’re excited!
“On the axe throwing, we have a $65 package, and it’s one lane for one hour, up to eight people. We also have that same package: one lane for one hour, eight people, two rides each on the bull, and it’s $100.”
“We hope it helps the community a lot, just for kids to come in and have something to do other than being out in the heat at the park. When it’s wintertime and they don’t want to be outside, come in and throw axes, ride the bull,” Hancock smiled.
GAT Co. is also available for private parties.
“If you book a private party with us, we’ll come in on one of the days that we are closed,” Reed said. “You can go for an hour and a half. We’ll come in, let you set up for 30 minutes and you’ll have an hour and a half. That will be any day that we are closed.”
