WEST POINT, Ala. – Cullman County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the West Point area in reference to an unresponsive juvenile at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 27.
Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick said despite efforts from first responders, the 6-month-old female that was found unresponsive was taken to local hospital and pronounced dead.
According to the CCSO, during the subsequent investigation, deputies and investigators developed information and determined that the juvenile was left in a vehicle and found unresponsive that morning.
The investigation uncovered sufficient evidence of neglect.
Lauren Peyton Whittle, 29, of Cullman and Vinton Eugene Rockwell, 34, of Vinemont were charged with manslaughter and are currently being held in the Cullman County Detention Center.
This is still an ongoing investigation and further information will be provided as it becomes available.
“Anytime law enforcement and first responders work cases involving children, it is very emotional for everyone involved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and all those affected,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.
