CULLMAN, Ala. – At the Link, their series of self-help programs including anger management and parenting classes is called Renew U. Coordinator Amber McLaughlin has helped people get involved in classes that assist them in building relationships, recovering from substance abuse and setting boundaries in their ultimate goal of renewing their sense of self. The Link held a bittersweet Farewell Tea for Amber on Wednesday afternoon to commemorate her time there and to give her a proper send off for her next steps. Laughlin plans to spend her time implementing the parenting classes she has taught by taking care of her new 9-month-old baby girl.
Executive Director Melissa Betts spoke about McLaughlin’s time there, saying, “Amber has been an integral part of our team and responsible for a lot of growth of The Link over the last six years. She started as a receptionist. It quickly became clear that she had a heart for working with our neighbors, and she shortly transitioned to be the Renew U Coordinator.”
She continued, “Amber has a heart for connecting with our neighbors right where they are. The name Amber means “fierce”, and Amber is just that when it comes to those she loves. She listens to a neighbor’s story and then helps them plan for their next steps. It does not matter if you attend a public class or a class held in the detention center, if you want to walk towards wholeness Amber is ready to show you how! She brings that fierceness when needed to advocate for those she leads and loves.”
“During Amber’s tenure, she has assisted in writing and managing a Parenting grant through The Children’s Trust Fund. This grant cycle our parenting education has impacted 477 people. That is HUGE!!!! Our staff, our neighbors, our facilitators, and community partners are all going to miss Amber’s leadership of Renew U. But we are celebrating her next steps and praying blessings for she and her family!” she finished.
