HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council met on Thursday evening where the council voted to approve transferring funds to the Hanceville Industrial Development Board for a nearly completed property located on Hwy 91 just north of Hwy 31.

Home to an upcoming cabinet shop which is expected to employee approximately five people, the development is in the end stages of construction, requiring only minor work on the interior and concrete work on the exterior.

After thorough discussion on the most appropriate manner to move the project forward and the timeline by which the funds are needed by the ID board, a line of credit was not deemed a viable option.

With the budgetary needs explained by ID board member Nolan Bradford, the council approved transferring $12,500 to the ID board, understanding that up to an additional $12,500 may be needed for project completion.

Mayor Kenneth Nail reminded everyone that the city will be recouping the funds upon the sale or lease of the property.

“We understand that once the building sells or whatever and the finances get together, we will get that money back,” he said.

In other news, Resolution No. 663 for sewer extension, using funds from the Community Development Block Grant program and additional funds from the Cullman County Community Development Commission, was approved.

Fire Chief Bob Long reported a highly active month of May with 159 total calls for his department. The Hanceville Fire Department is selling raffle tickets for a Five-Day Vacation Getaway to either Panama City, Florida’s Emerald Beach or Big Bear Lodge in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Only 200 raffle tickets will be sold, which can be purchased at Hanceville Fire Station No. 1 or from any fire department member. The money raised will go toward the purchase of new equipment.

In council news, Council member John Stam attended the meeting by telephone while he is recovering from COVID.

Mayor Kenneth Nail and his wife Sabrina are the proud grandparents of their small but mighty grandson, Liam. Weighing 1 pound, 8 ounces, Liam is currently in UAB Hospital where he is expected to be until the end of summer. The mayor thanked the council and community members for their continued support and prayers for his family.

The Hanceville City Council meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at Hanceville City Hall. The work session begins at 5:00 p.m. and the regular council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
