BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Farmers Market held their opening day on Saturday with the support of beautiful weather and several community organizations.

In addition to the delectable produce for sale from local farmers, Citizens Bank graciously provided a bounce house for children. Temple Baptist Church – Fairview Campus funded an inflatable slide and free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks to all in addition to preparing the meals. With its location just down the road, 278 Rock Grocery gave away free pizza.

The Link of Cullman County and Victim Services, two Cullman nonprofits, were set up to educate shoppers on their available services.

Venders from Morgan County also made an appearance at the market as did the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department showcasing a new firetruck.

Berlin Mayor Patrick Bates shared how opening day evolved into a larger event.

“We were originally planning to have a regular opening day. Then, NARCOG contacted us and, through their partnership with the Decatur-Morgan County Entrepreneurial Center, they joined us today. Over a period of about three weeks, it just quickly grew into this. We’re excited and are now thinking about what we’re going to do in future years for our opening day.”

The Power of Produce (POP) program will be on hand each Saturday, providing children under 13 each with $3 in POP bucks to spend on fresh produce at the market. The POP program encourages children to enjoy fresh, nutritious produce.

The Berlin Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. through October 29.

They are located at 50 Mt. Carmel Drive, right off of Hwy 278.
