CULLMAN, Ala. – The Link of Cullman County’s Kindergarten Readiness Camps are returning this July 18-29 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program is for children who will start kindergarten in the 2022-2023 school year. The camps are scattered across Cullman County with locations at:
- Cullman First Baptist Church
- Cold Springs Elementary School
- Fairview Baptist Church
- Good Hope Baptist
- Hanceville Elementary School
- Longview Church of God in Vinemont
The camps help children learn some basic knowledge which will help them with the placement tests given in kindergarten that assess their skill levels. They also help students learn to socialize with other kids.
“It preps them for some of the social and emotional things that they need to be prepared for, as well as basic letter, number [and] color recognition, then some of the fine motor skills, like how to hold and grip a pencil, cut with scissors and again, some of the social and emotional skills—how to line up. We take those things for granted, but they really are real skills that kindergarten students have to learn to master,” said Director of Community Development Melissa Betts.
These camps are a great opportunity for kids who have not been able to attend preschool to gain some of the same preparedness for kindergarten at no cost. The program is a few weeks before school starts to help students get acclimated to sharing a space with other children their age.
