WEST POINT, Ala. – After edging Russellville 1-0 in their first area tournament game Tuesday night, the Lady Warriors topped the Golden Tigers 3-0 Wednesday to capture this year’s 5A, Area 15 Tournament title. Carlie Wilkins pitched a complete game shutout Tuesday, and she was dominant once again tonight, tossing seven more scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and striking out four batters in the win.

West Point struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Wilkins drove in Bethany Minck with an RBI double to left field. An error allowed another run to score for the Lady Warriors and Braelee Quinn crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice to make it a 3-0 game going into the second inning.

Russellville put runners on the bases and threatened to score in both the second and the third, but West Point was able to get out of the jam both times and maintain the lead. Wilkins retired six of the next seven batters she faced over the next two innings, but the Lady Warriors weren’t able to push any runs across either. Russellville went three-up, three-down in the top half of the sixth and West Point collected the final three outs in the top of the seventh to secure a 3-0 win and an area tournament championship.

Braelee Quinn finished the night 3-for-3 at the plate and Sidney Burks and Wilkins each posted a hit and an RBI in the win. West Point will advance to play at the North Regional Tournament in Florence next week.
