GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope’s City Council held its final April meeting Monday night and before reading a pair of ordinances and appointing someone to the Alcohol Review Committee, they presented their first-ever City of Good Hope Endowed Scholarship to a local student. Good Hope High School’s Allie Sartin was on-hand to accept the scholarship from the council and in addition to thanking the council in person, expressed her gratitude beforehand in a written note.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for receiving the City of Good Hope Endowed Scholarship. I am honored and thankful to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship. Receiving this will be an aid to pursue my General Studies at Wallace State Community College for me to then be able to transfer to a university. Thank you for being generous and giving a helping hand for me to accomplish my career goals. This scholarship will help my family and I very much. This scholarship will reduce my financial burden. I will now not have to worry so much about college money and can focus more on my studies, learning, and trying to accomplish all of my goals. This scholarship means a lot to me. It is a big blessing for my family and me. It is all because of your kindness. Thank you again for your support and allowing me to receive this scholarship.”

The Council approved the scholarship back in October and $5,000 per year will be put toward The City of Good Hope Scholarship Fund to annually benefit a graduating senior from Good Hope High School that plans to attend Wallace State Community College. The money will come from the city’s alcohol funds.

Next, the Council held first readings for a pair of annexation ordinances that will be approved at the next meeting and approved the appointment of Heath Pike to the City’s Alcohol Review Committee.

Before adjourning, the Council approved a renewal of the City of Good Hope’s advertisement on the gym floor at Good Hope High School’s D.E. Ryan Gymnasium for six more years at $3,000 per year.

The Good Hope City Council will hold its next meeting Monday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall.
