WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Lady Warriors were back on the field Saturday afternoon for a rematch with Brewer and after falling to the Lady Patriots 3-2 earlier in the week, the Lady Warriors bounced back with a 2-0 win to secure a playoff spot.

West Point got off to a fast start, taking a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the game when Kyli Armstead scored off an assist from Kaedince Cagle. The Lady Warriors added to their lead when Vanesa Garcia fired a free kick into the back of the net from 40 yards out and Ingrid Garcia helped preserve the shutout in the goal.

Head Coach Rob Whitesell was proud of the way his team rose to the occasion Saturday to avenge their earlier loss to Brewer and earn a postseason berth.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s performance this afternoon. After Thursday’s disappointing outing, we were in a must-win situation to advance to the playoffs and today’s solid performance came in a pressure packed environment,” Whitesell said. “Hat’s off to Brewer’s girls who played aggressive and physical for the whole 80 minutes. Our calling card all season has been selfless, team-first play and that is what carried the day for us in this heat with 17 players seeing significant playing time. For a young program, no matter what happens next in post-season play, this is a milestone we will build on.”

The Lady Warriors will wrap up their regular season Tuesday night against J.B. Pennington before shifting focus to their first playoff matchup.
