Richard Cooper, age 61, of Hanceville passed away on April 22, 2022 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 11, 1961 in Bessemer, Alabama to Willie B. Cooper and Dorothy Fay Knight Cooper. Richard was the owner of Cooper Asphalt Paving Company and had been working in the Asphalt business for 44 years. He loved his friends and family, but the apple of his eye was his seven grandchildren. He loved to go deer hunting was known for his excellent guiding skills with his fellow hunters. He wanted to go to Disney World with his family in June and he said that would have completed his life. He was a member of Crosshaven Church and was the baby brother that was dearly loved by his siblings.
Richard is survived by his wife: Teresa Cooper; children: Richard Adam (Kelly) Cooper and Jessica Cooper (Justin) Whatley; grandchildren: Richard Adam Cooper Jr., Grace Kelly Cooper, Willie Ned Cooper, Christian Justin Whatley, Ava Nicole Whatley, Vivian Rose Whatley and Olivia Teresa Whatley and sisters: Dianna Fay Evans, Shirley Kay Smith and Ellan Ray Hudson.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Hanceville Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Rusty Sowell and Oney Cooper will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Serving and pallbearers will be Rodney Stanley, Johnny Stanley, Melvin Cooper Jr., Jeff Harper, Mike Hestla and Matthew Bells. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Murray, Melvin Cooper Sr., Scotty O’Hara, Greg Barksdale, Bob Holland, Joe Smith, Jacob Knight, Joe Calvert and Frank Miller.
