Mary Lucille Wear Schlosser, “Mary Lu,” age 73, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.
Mary Lu was first and foremost a loving mother and nana, and a Christian. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading and most of all, doting on her grandson.
Mary Lu grew up in Fort Payne, Alabama. After high school she attended the University of Alabama where she graduated with a double masters in speech pathology and audiology. In 1972, she moved to Cullman to start her career. In 1974 she started with the Cullman County School System. She retired after 40 years in education. During her tenure, she served in various roles, including a hearing-impaired teacher, speech language pathologist and special education referral coordinator. Mary Lu’s nurturing spirit was always evident in the hundreds of students she helped over the years. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where she previously served as the president and secretary of the United Methodist Women.
Mary Lu was preceded in death by her husband: Louis Schlosser Jr; parents: John and Martha Wear and brothers: David Wear and Andy Wear.
She is survived by her daughters: Marian Schlosser and Michelle Schlosser; grandson: Mason Sexton; sister: Claudia Roseman and her niece and nephews: Kelly Wear Demlow, Jason Wear and Drew Wear.
Funeral services for Mrs. Schlosser will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with burial at the Catholic Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home.
