Obituary: Charles Floyd “Paw-Paw” Bates

Charles Floyd “Paw-Paw” Bates, 85, of Baileyton, Alabama, passed away the morning of April 6, 2022. Charles was born in Cullman, Alabama, to Herbert T. and Lula E. Gossett Bates on July 2, 1936.

Charles served his country in the United States Army. His honorable service to our country will forever be remembered with gratitude. Mr. Bates worked in the heating and air industry for many years. He owned his own business and was dedicated to his profession. When he did spare a few minutes from his work, Charles enjoyed his family and he loved spending time them.

Mr. Bates is preceded in death by his parents; a son: Eddie Dwayne Bates; brothers: Amos Bates, H.T. Bates, Jr., Rayburn Bates, Robert Lee Bates and Lowell Edward Bates and his sisters: Sybil Henderson, Inez Speegle, Dorothy Morrow and Audrey Sonenberg.

He is survived by his wife: Vonda Lambert Bates; sons: Danny and LeeAnn Bates, and David Bates; brother: Leon and Mildred Bates; sisters-in-law: Glenda Bates and Doreen Bates; five grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Bates are 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2022, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Baileyton Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the Bates family, at the funeral home, from 11:00 a.m., until services begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
