Obituary: Lee W. O’Mary

Lee W. O’Mary, a resident of Pace, Florida, passed away on March 28, 2022 at the age of 96.

He was born November 11, 1925 in Eldridge, Alabama to David and Etta O’Mary. He was a graduate of Winston County High School and Alabama Polytechnic (Auburn) University. He interrupted his high school studies to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the military as a member of the Alabama National Guard. 

Lee had a long career as a social caseworker, county supervisor and regional supervisor with the State of Alabama Department of Human Resources. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a longtime member and deacon at Double Springs First Baptist Church and was a member of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola at the time of his passing.

He is preceded in death by his parents: David Andrew O’Mary and Etta Rice O’Mary; his wife: Mary Joe O’Mary; his brothers: James Wallace O’Mary, Berlin O’Mary and William Thomas O’Mary and sister: Martha Louise O’Mary Kirkpatrick.

Lee is survived by his children: Judith Waters (Michael) and Arthur O’Mary (Judy), three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at Double Springs First Baptist Church prior to the service. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Double Springs Memorial Cemetery, Double Springs, Alabama. Nichols Funeral Home will arrange the proceedings.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lee’s honor to The Gideons International, the First Baptist Church of Double Springs or the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Pallbearers will be Jesse Waters, Corey Roman, Steve Cagle, J.D. Snoddy, Linneth Hill and Derek Dees.

The family would like to thank Covenant Health and Mrs. Rebecca Lewis for their care of Lee in his final weeks.
