CULLMAN, Ala. – Sacred Heart Church of Jesus in Cullman participated Friday morning in the worldwide event consecrating Ukraine and Russian. Father Patrick made the announcement on Facebook Thursday evening, saying, “As many of you know, the visionaries of Our Lady of Medjugorje have received several messages from the Blessed Mother concerning the ongoing war in the Ukraine. She has said that unless the Church erupts with prayers, especially the rosary, that the war will only get worse and spread to other parts of Europe and the world. She has also requested that the Pope in union with all the bishops of the world consecrate both the Ukraine and Russia to our Lady of Fatima as she requested when she first appeared there in 1917.
In conformity with this request, Pope Francis in union with all the Bishops of the Church will consecrate both the Ukraine and Russia to Our Lady of Fatima, tomorrow, Friday, 25 March 2022, the Solemnity of the Annunciation at 5:00 p.m. Rome time.”
Sacred Heart held lead the rosary at 11:00 a.m., 5:00pm in Rome, in conjunction with the Diocese of Birmingham, Bishop Racia who led the rosary from St. Paul’s Cathedral. Sacred Heart also placed a flat screen TV in the Church to watch the Pope saying the Rosary from Rome during their own service to help the parishioners feel connected to the many others participating in the event. The consecration at St. Paul’s Cathedral was broadcast over the Diocesan website, bhmdiocese.org.
The church’s announcement included, “As I have often said at mass, this war between Russia and the Ukraine is a truly unjust war and appears to be caused by one man – President Putin of Russia who, for whatever reason, none of which are justifiable, seems to be trying to put the old USSR back together again. The only way this will not happen is to do exactly what the Blessed Mother has told us to do – pray, pray, pray for peace and justice to be reestablished once again between these two countries.”
The catholic church’s worldwide participation in the unifying event shows the country and the world’s support of Ukraine, and the hope for the same unification and peace between nations. St. Paul’s Cathedral in Birmingham offers a portal for donations to Ukraine on their website- https://bhmdiocese.org/catholic-charities-appeal.
