FAIRVIEW, Ala. – After heavy rain shut things down earlier this week, the Cold Springs Lady Eagles were back on the field Thursday night, and they picked up a 7-3 road win over Fairview. Emma Black got the start for the Lady Eagles, and she went the distance, striking out 12 batters and allowing three runs (one earned) on just six hits.

An error gave the Lady Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and later in the inning, Heidi Nichols ripped an RBI single into left field to make it a 2-0 game going into the bottom half of the first. After a scoreless second inning, Cold Springs added to its lead in the top of the third.

Ciara Calvert led things off with a single up the middle and an error brought her home to score later in the inning to make it 3-0. Maddie Pearl drove an RBI single into right field to stretch the lead to 4-0 and just a few pitches later, Brooklyn Ingram singled to left to score Nichols and put the Lady Eagles up 5-0. A pair of errors allowed two more Cold Springs runners to score in the third and Fairview trailed 7-0 going into the bottom half of the inning.

Neither team could get on the board in the fourth or fifth innings, but the Lady Aggies were able to cut into the lead in their half of the sixth. An Emily Benson single gave Fairview a base runner and Jaycee Aleman brought her across the plate with a single into center field, trimming the lead to 7-1. Aleman scored from third on a passed ball later in the inning to make it a 7-2 game and the Lady Aggies went into the final frame trailing by five runs.

An RBI single from Tessa Buckelew cut the lead to 7-3 but Fairview couldn’t chip away any more than that and Cold Springs returned home with a 7-3 win.

Ingram (one RBI) led the Lady Eagles with three hits in the win and Pearl (one RBI), Nichols (one RBI) and Calvert each added a pair of hits as well. Emma Roberts posted two hits for Fairview in the loss and Savannah Bryson, Aleman, Benson and Buckelew (one RBI) each finished with a hit as well.
