WEST POINT, Ala. – The West Point Warriors returned home Thursday night to host a varsity matchup against East Lawrence and added another game to the win column with a 3-0 victory over the Eagles.
West Point took a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the game when Omar Segunda scored off an assist from Josh Shannon and 15 minutes later, Joel Guzman lifted a corner kick into the box and Anthony Guevara put it off his head and into the back of the net to make it 2-0 going into the halftime break.
Guevara’s second goal off another assist from Guzman extended the lead to 3-0 in the second half and David Whitesell’s shutout performance in the net for the Warriors preserved a 3-0 win on their home field.
West Point Head Coach Jacob Brown was proud of the way his team played after a long hiatus and wants to see them continue building momentum for the second half of the season.
“As always, I am proud of the boys. We were honestly very rusty because we have not played in three weeks due to rainouts. The rust showed tonight but we still managed to put some really good things together to keep it going,” Brown said. “Now our focus is on the five section matches we have coming in April.”
The Warriors will be back home next Thursday to face Danville.
