CULLMAN, Ala. – The Link of Cullman County has begun registration for sponsorships and teams for the annual Links for Literacy Golf Tournament April 11 at the Terri Pines Country Club. The tournament is a 4-man shamble. There will be two tee times: one at 8:30 a.m. and the other at 1:00 p.m.

Lunch and flags will be provided for all that are playing. Lunch will be served for golfers at 12:00 p.m.

The cost to register for a 4-man team is $750.

The hole-in-one prizes are $25,000 cash from sponsor Jim McDonald at Farmers Insurance, a 2022 Chevy Traxx from Adam Aker at Mitch Smith Chevrolet and a $10,000 Sandals vacations given by Sandy Herren at Main Street & More Travel. The title sponsor for the tournament this year is Alabama Farm Credit, who are also the sponsors for the Link’s Wise Up financial literacy program taught in 9-12 grade classrooms across the county. “We are super thankful for their partnership with us in that. They truly see a value in helping teens have some financial literacy,” said Director of Development and Operations Melissa Betts.

The tournament supports the many literacy projects at the Link. “We have several things going on. We have moved all our children services into what we call here on campus our ‘little house’ that sits out front, and it’s being completely renovated,” said Betts.

The Link will also have seven Kindergarten Readiness camp sites this year located in Hanceville,

Good Hope, Cold Springs, Cullman First Baptist Church, Vinemont at Longview Church of God, West Point and Fairview at First Baptist Church of Fairview.

“There are skill sets that children are tested on before they go to kindergarten to see where they are. They are placement tests, so it’s really important for children to have a little bit of basic skill and knowledge.” The camps prep children for some of the social and emotional aspects of being around a lot of new children in kindergarten. The program is similar to the lessons children learn in preschools. Betts says, “Some children have been to preschool and other children don’t have the opportunity.” The camp is open to all children, whether or not they have already been in a preschool setting.
