CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman-based Throwback Outdoor Cinema is returning with some spring throwback films for the next two weekends at the Cullman County Fairgrounds. The pop-up drive-in cinema was brought to Cullman by Seth and Brandi Powell last year. They will be able to use the fairgrounds as their main location until time for the county fair set up.
Tickets are $25 plus tax per vehicle and can be purchased in advance at: https://www.eventbrite.com/o/throwback-outdoor-cinema-36125439233?fbclid=IwAR3SBYXEOE-A6ynyDswd2_dUhtq_ojJM32ls1grkUTM84eykB3Qs203pV9o.
The Spring Break Throwback Film Schedule:
Friday 3/25 – Twister at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday 3/26 – Hook at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday 3/31 – The Lion King at 7:30 p.m.
Friday 4/1 – Mrs. Doubtfire at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday 4/2 – Back to the Future at 7:30 p.m.
“We’ve got summer through fall confirmed with the fairgrounds, so we’ll have lots more dates coming up,” said Brandi.
The movies at the drive-in are for all ages to watch. Brandi says that maybe during Halloween there could be one that is R-rated “but for the most part everything is going to be PG-13, very family friendly.”
The Powell’s have recently had an issue with scammers on Facebook commenting that they have tickets for purchase that they cannot use anymore, but Brandi responded saying it is impossible for anyone to have extra tickets for sale since the tickets are only available on EventBrite and at the gate as long as advance isn’t sold out. “I’m doing my best to take care of it as soon as I notice a comment like that and delete them,” says Brandi.
Seth and Brandi would appreciate getting support from customers by purchasing concessions. They will have popcorn, candy and drinks available. They are working on building a full concession trailer for the summer that the funds from their concession sales will go toward.
The movie licensing cost requires most of the ticket sale profits that are made, so concession sales are what helps fund the growth of the drive-in.
