HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council on Monday evening granted a special event alcohol license for the Bull Bash event on June 11 at C. W. Day Park hosted by the City of Hanceville and the Early Bird Cattle Company. Alcohol will only be sold at the tennis courts and will be sold in plain cups. Parking will be allowed at some of the lots at Wallace State Community College, including the Evelyn Burrows Museum. Those attending the event will be shuttled to and from the park. The parking lot of the senior center will be the drop off for the shuttle. Handicapped parking will be available at C.W. Day. Tickets are $15 at the gate and $12 for pre-sale. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m.

The Bull Bash will feature bucking and fighting bulls, followed by a free concert starring Brandon Elder. Anyone interested in becoming a vendor at the Bull Bash can contact Amy Moctezuma via Facebook Messenger or by calling Hanceville City Hall.

In other business:

  • The council voted to surplus several items including a 2021 Kenworth dump truck, nine 0.45 mm Glock pistols to be replaced with the amount of 0.9 mm pistols that can be purchased for the same amount, and 375 SIG ammunition.
  • The council extended the bid for the sewer line. The city was granted a permit last week to go forward with the sewer line at DB Technologies. The CCCDC granted $20,000 toward the project.
  • The council discussed Ordinance No. 641 for the implementation of Knox Boxes in all new commercial buildings and existing commercial buildings that have a sprinkler system. The Hanceville Fire Department recommended the installation of the Knox Boxes which are small, wall-mounted safes that hold building keys for fire departments, emergency medical services and occasionally police to retrieve in emergency situations. The boxes cost around $400. The council tabled the ordinance to discuss at the next meeting.
  • Citywide yard sales will take place March 25-26. No permit is required. Free landfill pickup is on March 28-31. Items must be out by 6 a.m. on March 31.

The next council meeting will be April 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Hanceville City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
