BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council on Monday talked about big plans for the opening day of its farmers’ market, coming up on May 21, 2022. According to Mayor Patrick Bates:

  • Lifesouth will be on hand for a blood drive.
  • The North Alabama Regional Council of Governments will sponsor multiple tents and booths for businesses and organizations to sell goods or present services.
  • The Berlin Fire Department will have its new fire trucks out.
  • Representatives of the Farmers Market Coalition’s Power of Produce/” PoP” Club program will be present to provide children with educational games and activities about agriculture.

The council also discussed a desire to have food and entertainment – including possibly bouncy houses and live music – at the event.

Bates also reported that almost all grower slots at the farmers’ market are full, and the county extension service recently reported an increasing number of new growers reporting Berlin as their market.

The council approved $1,000 for the installation of a water faucet at the farmers’ market shed, along with $432 for two new large banners to increase the visibility of the facility.

Berlin will hold a meeting for growers at 3:00 p.m. this Friday, Mar. 25.

The council also voted to accept two annexation requests in the area of County Road 728, adding a total of approximately 20 acres to the town.

The Berlin Town Council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at Berlin Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
